(Media Sources Below)
When you need media for a project, maybe your habit is to go straight to Google Images and search for a picture that you need. But did you know that many of those pictures are ones that you don't actually have permission to use?
When using images, video and audio for school projects, you need to make sure it is licensed for you to use. Depending on the creator's intentions, they've determined whether their media can be used for free, if it can be remixed, if you need to pay them, etc. This is called creative commons (CC) licensing.
Usually you can use most media as long as you give credit and you're not making money off of what you make. Remember: If you can’t trace the creator of an image/video or the terms of a work’s use, do not use that image.
When using media, you need to give credit to the original creator. Depending on the formatting or style of your project (for example, were you asked to use MLA citation?) you might need to format it in a specific way. Otherwise, a good rule is to include the title, name of the creator, the source (url), and the type of CC license it has.
